NoScript, ByteMobile, & Uninvited JavaScript Injection

Having just blogged an entry on the threat of poisoned websites, I logged on to techgripe.net over the weekend only to find that an additional piece of JavaScript was trying to execute!
How did I find this? Via a very useful Firefox add-on called NoScript. If you don’t use this I highly recommend it - it really does show you what scripts are attempting to run, as well as allowing you to pick & choose which scripts (if any) you will permit. (A security consultant colleague of mine put me onto this.) Another excellent add-on is FireBug which is much more extensive in revealing what’s going on in the code (aimed at web developers) - this revealed the actual content of the script. Read more

I am really worried about this trend - the real threat is becoming secretly embedded code in legitimate websites! And these hackers are incredibly good at hiding their code making it difficult even for experts to find.

Vista use grows as Mac OS X stays flat…Really?

An article appearing on the NZ Computerworld site by Gregg Keizer Framingham seems to suggest that Vista uptake is outstriping Mac OSX:
“Windows Vista’s share of online users has increased every month this year, while rival Mac OS X — to which Vista has often been compared — has shown little, if any, growth, a metrics company reports.”
