Leopard on a PC? If you must…
November 12, 2007
Apparently there are a few people who would like to ‘play with’ Leopard on a PC just to try it out. And, believe it or not, it actually is possible with a bit of ‘hacking’…
Check out this site here for the detailed instructions. Beware, this is not for the fainthearted, nor are there any guarantees that it will run permanently. Skimming a few of the forums seems to suggest that eventually your PC/Leopard build may stop booting.
Amazingly, this hack was released within 24hrs of the actual Leopard release to the public. (See article here.)
Nevertheless, this actually does seem like a good idea - obviously I don’t mean running OSX on a PC longterm, but perhaps Apple could release a bootable CD of some sort that could give PC users the chance to really get a decent hands-on feel for themselves. Showrooms are great, but there’s nothing like having the time to explore in the comfort of your own living room.
Ultimately, I think have the ‘Apple’ experience is the combination of a solid Operating System on excellent, well designed hardware. Having control of connecting the two makes the end-product very appealing.
Anyway, if you’re game and have the time, let me know how it goes…

Actually it works quite well. Bit tough to get hold of the image but the average downloader should get it fast. I know have the strange combination of Vista on MacBook Pro (with Boot camp) and Leopard on a PC.
I must say that at this point Vista on the MacBook Pro works better than Leopard does. Enter the twilight zone.
Excellent - thanks for the feedback. I haven’t managed to successfully build the image myself.
happypanda you are a fagzzor. put leopard on the macbook and linux on the damn pc, or xp if you MUST. What are you thinking?? OS X is pretty much the best OS ever. No shit - system administrator’s dream; PROGRAMMER’S dream. Two areas I feel we don’t hear enough about with respect to mac. Also, with the proper chip in your pc, OS X is fully great if you can’t afford the $$ for the mac hardware but want to get OUT of the windows hole on your pc, and still avoid the guru-ism of linux.
“avoid the guru-ism of linux.”
Oh yeah totally, the fanboy-ism of apple is much much better.
[/sarcasm]
sikanrong, you’re sick and wrong.
Fagzzor sounds like the art teacher at Harry Potter’s school. Or a lesser dwarf in in the Lord of the Rings.
Chapter 12. Fagzzor slays the orcs.
Programmer’s dream? Mac is almost certainly not a programmer’s dream. More of a nightmare. If you want to spend 2 grand on a computer that can play music files and that’s about it, go ahead and buy a Mac. Otherwise your going to need a PC.
