1.1.4 is out… but DON’T upgrade just yet! (Updated)
February 27, 2008

As you may have noticed, Apple has released a new version of firmware - 1.1.4 - for the iPhone via iTunes. So, if you’ve unlocked your phone, in spite of the temptation… I highly recommend you don’t upgrade at this stage. So far, the only thing we know for sure about what’s in this release is that it contains ‘bug fixes’, and that the current hacking tools (e.g. ZiPhone) only partially work.
Note that all 3 of my preferred Tool sites are also recommending not to upgrade just yet - hopefully, you will only have to wait a few days at most!
ZiPhone - “DO NOT UPGRADE TO 1.1.4. ZiPhone will soon work with 1.1.4. But I need to FULLY test it and
do a few adjustments.”iJailbreak - “Firmware 1.1.4 Support Coming Soon! DO NOT UPGRADE NOW.”
iNdependence - “As usual, don’t upgrade to phone firmware 1.1.4 until we know the extent of the damage. :)”
You have been warned.
Also note that there has been a good deal of speculation that this update largely lays the foundation for the coming SDK for 3rd-paty Apps, but so far there is no supporting evidence of that.
In fact, it literally only seems to fix some bugs introduced in 1.1.3 related to SMS ordering, Bluetooth problems, etc.

Stay tuned…
Updated (29 Feb 2008): iNdependence has now released v1.4 beta 5 (awesome work!) which now supports unlocking 1.1.4. However, I still wouldn’t be in a rush to upgrade yet. I get the feeling that there may still be issues at this stage…
Updated (1 Mar 2008): ZiPhone and iJailbreak have also now been updated to support 1.1.4.
