The New Macbook Pro - my first impressions…

After a nearly 4-week wait, my new Macbook Pro finally arrived. And, I have to say, it was worth waiting for - definitely a step up from my previous Macbook. Not to dissimilar (I imagine) from sliding into the drivers seat of a new BMW. Here’s my initial thoughts…

Plenty of updates occurring in the Tech Realm at the moment - but remarkably since the announcement of the SDK, news on the iPhone is much quieter. No doubt it will remain that way until June when v2.0 is officially released.
I have not been able to update the site as much as I would like recently - too much happening in my ‘real’ life - but hopefully that will change back to normal again shortly…

VMware have created a blog about virtualization on the Mac platform, and how it’s “changing the way people interact with their Macs and PCs” - their words. While this blog is obviously primarily a marketing tool for VMware, it is an interesting place to start if you want to see what others have managed to do with Fusion on their Macs.
iPhone Apps - the game changes again. Is this the new lock-out?

With the announcement and release of the iPhone SDK and Enterprise support, the game has changed again. This is a hugely positive step from Apple and reinforces the fact that they are listening to users and the market in general. But who will get access to them?
Will Apple eventually allow unlocked iPhones?

It seems Apple has had a slight change of mood towards those who would unlock their iPhones. In fact, it will be interesting to see if this new approach is actually voiced in some form at the upcoming SDK event this Thursday. Perhaps we’re in for an officially supported unlocked iPhone at some point in the not too distant future?

Last night I took the plunge and upgraded my unlocked iPhone to 1.1.4. Overall, it was amazingly straightforward - to be honest, I’m not sure it could have been any easier, in spite of a few minor glitches.
