Apparently, its finally been done - credit to George Hotz! The iPhone Installer App now has a new package called “1.1.2-1.1.3 OTB G-Unlock” which installs directly from the iPhone.

Apple does not have an overstocked inventory problem. In fact, if they’re not careful, they could have a supply problem. Perhaps in the States it’s hard to imagine so many unlocked iPhones because you hardly ever see any. Outside the US (and UK, Germany, France etc.) unlocked iPhones are all we see - and we see a lot of them!

A number of people I have spoken to don’t seem to realise that unlocking the 1.1.3 OTB iPhone is simply not possible yet. You can get into it without going through the official Activation process, but essentially it becomes no more than a glorified ‘iPod touch’. Will it happen the future? Maybe - but I suspect it may be a while…

Mad as I was to try so quickly after it was released, I did. And, on my previously jailbroken and unlocked (IPSF) 1.1.2 phone, it worked. Flawlessly (for me at least). Hats off to Nate True and the Dev Team! Fantastic work!

If you have a more recent iPhone (serial number with digits 4 and 5 greater than ‘44′), you will most likely have the latest ‘Bootloader‘ installed (4.6). This one small change by Apple is proving to be quite a show-stopper for would-be unlockers…
