China hosts nearly half of malware sites

Chinese HackerAccording to a report released Monday by antivirus company Sophos, China–including Hong Kong–hosted 44.8 percent of the world’s infected sites in August 2007. Sophos said that it detected an average of 5,000 new infected pages each day in the month of August.

Why is this important? The web is becoming a much less safe place for the average web surfer… and there are few solutions in the pipeline - except common sense and a lot of luck!

Malware a sophisticated ‘service’, says researcher

Hackers AheadMalware is now being offered as a service, Auckland University researcher Peter Gutmann told the opening forum of Privacy Awareness Week in Wellington last week. “Some malware,” he says, “will not only take control of a computer but will also remove other malware.”

Monster.com falls victim to trojan attack

TrojanRecruitment website, Monster.com has suffered a massive security breach, leaving thousands of users’ personal details exposed. The breach was reported yesterday, as a new trojan called Infostealer.Monstres was detected while uploading data from a remote server of the recruiter. Read more
