According to The Unlock iPhone Blog, the law in France says Mobile Phones must be unlockable. Engadget is summising that Apple’s supposed launch of the iPhone in France is being held up by these regulations. Maybe our European friends can teach Apple yet another lesson about doing business openly?
VMware and the mainframe

The industry is gaga over server virtualization as more users look to turn physical servers into consolidated virtual partitions. The irony here is that while the server virtualization chatter focuses on VMware, Xen, Citrix, and Microsoft, the venerable IBM zSeries (i.e. mainframe) will likely be one of the biggest beneficiaries of this virtualization frenzy. We’ve all been wondering what on Earth Apple has been thinking recently right? Don Reisinger believes its all AT&T’s fault. Has Steve Jobs finally been out-foxed by the big Telcos? Is he now at their beck and call?

All I can say at this point is - there must be far more money riding on the Apple/AT&T contract than we think. It must be worth an absolute fortune to Steve Jobs - because he seems to be willing to sacrifice the satisfaction of significant numbers of existing Apple fans with the recent (and possibly intentionally malicious) iPhone 1.1.1 update. Outside US or Europe - Should you buy an iPhone?

If you aren’t in the ‘blessed’ countries where the iPhone is (or will be) officially released so far (US, UK, Germany and France), the only way you can have an iPhone that works is to (a) get one on the ‘gray’ market and then (b) unlock it with one of the various ‘hacks’ now available. So, with Apple now committing to a game of cat and mouse with the unlockers, is it still worth buying one?

When the iPhone first hit store shelves, Apple was on top of the world. But just a few months later, it’s amazing how quickly things have changed. Mac sales are still strong, but the iPhone has become the topic of heated debate, Apple has come under fire for dropping the iPhone price too early and too substantially, and its iTunes Store is under attack from content producers and new, formidable competitors.
This is a great article by Don Reisinger that I completely agree with. Apple is going to have to be very careful to ensure its next moves don’t push its currently loyal users over the edge!
