Reviewing the iPhone - 8mths on…

With the imminent release of the new 3G iPhone, I have been thinking a lot about my current iPhone - which I bought back in October last year. And I have to say, it still rocks for me! So far it has been reliable, highly functional, and a joy to use. Even at v1.4 of the firmware (and v2.0 is coming), it pretty much does everything I need - flawlessly…
My 1.1.4 Upgrade Experience

Last night I took the plunge and upgraded my unlocked iPhone to 1.1.4. Overall, it was amazingly straightforward - to be honest, I’m not sure it could have been any easier, in spite of a few minor glitches.
1.1.4 is out… but DON’T upgrade just yet! (Updated)

As you may have noticed, Apple has released a new version of firmware - 1.1.4 - for the iPhone via iTunes. So, if you’ve unlocked your phone, in spite of the temptation… I highly recommend you don’t upgrade at this stage. So far, the only thing we know for sure about what’s in this release is that it contains ‘bug fixes’, and that the current hacking tools (e.g. ZiPhone) only partially work.
iPhone WiFi Problems (aka greyed-out “No WiFi”)

It appears a number of people have run into this particular problem on their iPhone: for no specific reason their WiFi stops suddenly working… often with a very low battery life (approx 6hrs) and the phone itself getting hot when in use. Here’s what I have discovered so far about this issue…

For the moment at least, any version of the iPhone (including the currently selling 1.1.3) is unlockable. However, the next version can’t be far off - likely to be before the end of this month with the promised iPhone SDK - which will no doubt bring a new lockdown. So now’s your chance - get in while you can…
Any-version iPhone Unlocking Tool?

Hot on the heels of the George Hots hack for OTB 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 phones, it appears that Zibri has release a tool called ZiPhone. Apparently, his software is based on George’s hack and previous exploits, and is designed to unlock any released version of iPhone!
