Apple to Allow Virtualization under Leopard OSX Server

In a notable about-face, Apple has changed its stance with regard to allowing Mac OS X Server to be run inside a virtual machine (VM).
This is a strategically important change for Apple, and a critical step if they want to make any inroads at all in the Enterprise space with Xserve. Only time will tell if they are ready to embrace virtualization of OSX fully…

It’s time to install virtual throw-away PCs

I give up. You should too. It’s time to stop trying to secure users’ web browsers, and instead just throw them away. We can’t stop users from clicking on the wrong links or going to compromised websites. We can’t eliminate drive-by worm infections or block zero-day rootkits. But thanks to virtualisation, we can flush them all away.
I have been saying this in my consulting role for a while now - Frank Hayes is exactly right. Whoever is the first to productise this in a way that is easy and straightforward for users and Admins alike will do very, very well… Watch this space!

VMware and the mainframe

The industry is gaga over server virtualization as more users look to turn physical servers into consolidated virtual partitions. The irony here is that while the server virtualization chatter focuses on VMware, Xen, Citrix, and Microsoft, the venerable IBM zSeries (i.e. mainframe) will likely be one of the biggest beneficiaries of this virtualization frenzy.
